Hither Green Summer Opera- Concert and Recital: SAT 14 June

Ella Roberta Fdn

Date: Saturday, 14 June 2014

Place: St Swithun’s Church, Hither Green Lane, London SE13

Time: 5pm to 7pm

Tickets: Adult £6 Children £2. Tickets available form the Cafe of Good Hope, Holbeach School and St Swithun’s Church on the night.

Event Details:  Catford-based opera singers Mairéad Sheerin, Matthew Elton Thomas and Hilary Dolamore and will be performing an abridged version of Mozart’s  ‘The Marriage of Figaro’,  raising funds for local charity, The Ella Roberta Family Foundation. They will be accompanied by Richard Black.

Between them, they have sung at the English National Opera, Glyndebourne, the Royal Albert Hall and Buckingham Palace.

Also performaing will be local choir ‘Cats’ Chorus’, directed by Mairéad, along with a musicals set from selected soloists.

Fund raising: The evening will raise  funds for the Ella Roberta Family Foundation, launched earlier this year to raise much-needed funds for research into severe asthma in children and to provide better facilities for children’s wards in hospitals across south east London.

The Foundation commemorates the life of local school girl Ella Roberta Kissi-Debrah, who was just nine years old when she died suddenly from a severe asthma attack in February 2013.

Mairéad says: “Ella was a friend of my son’s at Holbeach Primary School in Catford and we know just how much Ella loved music and singing. My husband Matthew and I were very keen to contribute in some way to the Ella Roberta Family Foundation – and what better way than to sing and raise money!

“We hope that the concert on the 14th June will be a great event for adults and children alike. We want to keep it short, witty and entertaining and have asked other local professional musician friends to join us. It should be a fun celebration of a short but inspiring life.”

Ella’s Mum, Rossy Kissi-Debrah, adds: “Ella was passionate about music,  she had a natural talent for writing, music and dance. Come and join us to listen to some wonderful music!”
